Vitus – Pet Adoption 2.0
Today, the landing page for my latest project, Vitus, went online. Vitus is a pet adoption website that differs itself in the way you search for pets in different animal shelters.
About a month and a half ago, my sister — who recently adopted a dog — explained me the painful and slow process of adopting a pet. If you simple search for “pet adoption” on the web, you’ll find hundreds of websites that have many, many pets registered. Most of these websites are poorly maintained, use old-fashioned designs and components, or are generally outdated. For example, they mostly use filters to let you find what you’re looking for. But filters are not all that matters when you’re looking to adopt a pet. They’ll only literally filter out pets that do not match your requirements. What about all the other pets that could be a great match for you, but aren’t listed?
Vitus introduces ranked search for pets in animal shelters. We call the module “Matchmaker”, and it calculates a score for each pet, based on the answers you provide in a questionnaire used in different animal shelters. The results will be influenced by questions like: “Do you have a garden that the pet can access any time?”, or “Would you like to take your pet on holidays?”. Also, on Vitus, you can search for pets in different animal shelters. Each animal shelter can create it’s own account and upload and manage their own pets.
Combined with a modern design, speedy and responsive website, we think Vitus will be a great success. Currently we are still looking for animal-shelters in Belgium and The Netherlands that we can partner with. You can visit Vitus at:
